Custom Design Your Laundry Room for an Organized, Stress-Free Space

3 minute read, by Closet America, on Mar 25, 2016

The average American spends 10 minutes per day on laundry–wouldn’t you prefer to spend that time in an organized, clean laundry room that perfectly suits your needs?

There are work clothes—suits, slacks, skirts, business casual, business formal, jeans for Friday, even the occasional (and regrettable) Hawaiian shirt. Casual clothes, athletic clothes…don’t even get me started on the kids’ clothes. Different uniforms for every sport? Can’t there just be an omni-uniform? If you’re a Panther for soccer, you’re a Panther for lacrosse.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that laundry is a large part of our day. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average person spends ten minutes per day doing laundry, and that can be broken down further: the average woman spends sixteen minutes a day (which, yes, means four for men).

The BLS estimates that women between 25-44 will spend about 1.7 hours a week on laundry alone. While that time may be unavoidable, it doesn’t have to be miserable.

The Benefit Of A Well-Organized Laundry Room

For a lot of people, the laundry room is the unfinished room in the basement that just happens to have the connections needed for the machines. If you’re lucky, it has some shelves and maybe a cabinet or table on which to fold the laundry. It’s not a great use of space, and it certainly isn’t a room you enjoy spending time in. What a professionally designed and installed laundry room storage system can do is give you the space you need to make laundry far less of a cumbersome chore.

  • Built-in laundry hampers. One of the problems with laundry day is getting everything sorted. With hidden, easily accessible hampers, you can pre-sort clothes by whatever system you prefer. The removable linings make it easy to transfer each load right to the washing machine. With tons of storage space, your sorting doesn’t have to result in piles strewn on the floor anymore, but can be hidden away neatly, leaving the rest of the room open and organized.

  • Custom drawers, shelving, and counters. Drawers and cabinets are ideal for storing detergent, static-cling sheets, and all your other laundry needs at a convenient height. Shelves and cabinets are great for storing towels, linens, and anything else you keep in your laundry room, freeing up space in other closets in your home. And integrated, well-built counters are perfect for folding.

  • Hide-away ironing board. For some people, ironing is the worst, especially if you are setting up a clunky board in a small space. A hide-away ironing board allows you to pull it out when you need it, and have it hidden away when you don’t, without the struggle of wrangling it into place, fiddling with the adjustable height, then getting it back out of the way so you can do more laundry.

And there doesn’t need to be a struggle when you’re designing that custom laundry room, either. When you work with us, we’ll sit down at the table with you and determine exactly what you need in your laundry room. We create a 3D-rendered model of your space, inventory exactly what you need to store in the room, and design a custom solution that fits perfectly. After we’ve designed exactly what you want, our 3D rendering is sent directly to our local Maryland factory, where each piece is custom-made for your room. This screen-to-machine technology ensures that what we’ve designed together is exactly what is delivered, with the exact dimensions of your room. We then efficiently install the design, leaving your laundry room cleaner than when we started (and more organized).

Having a well-organized house is all about peace of mind and saving time. Laundry needs to be done—there’s no way to get around that. But it doesn’t have to take up as much time as it has in the past, and doesn’t have to be a miserable chore. Inefficient systems create so much hassle, making laundry a dreadful idea, an onerous task. Having a smart system based around a custom laundry room means making that sixteen minutes a day seem just a little more fruitful.
